Simargl or Semargl is a deity or mythical creature in East Slavic mythology, which is represented as a winged lion or dog.

His wife is the goddess of the night, Kupalnitsa, and is the father of Kupalo and Kostroma.

Simargl is chained to the star Polaris, in the constellation Ursa Minor, being guarded by the Zoryas, solar goddesses (daughters or servants) of the god Dazbog, preventing the constellation and the world from being released and destroyed.

Semargl is present in the pantheon of gods of the Grand Prince Vladimir I of Kiev.

It is believed that it is the equivalent of Simurgh from Persian mythology, who is also represented as a griffin with the body of a dog.
